BBL / AI CONSULTANT / UK

An AI consultant who finds the hours first.
Then builds only what pays for itself.

You’ve heard AI can save you time. You don’t know where, and you don’t want to pay to find out the hard way. Here’s how the three ways to bring AI into a small business compare, and which one fits yours.

An AI consultant works out where artificial intelligence can save a business hours or win it more work, then sets up the tools that pay back. For a small business, a good one starts with the jobs repeated every week, not with software.

WHAT YOU GET
01

A list of where your week goes.

We look at the calls, enquiries, quotes and admin that eat your hours, and put a number on each one. You see what it costs before anyone mentions software.

02

The two or three jobs worth doing.

Most of what AI can do won’t pay back in a business your size. We name the few things that will, with the hours saved in your numbers, and tell you which to leave alone.

03

Built, tested and running.

No roadmap that sits in a drawer. We build the first one inside the tools you already use, test it with you watching, and keep it running after it goes live.

THREE WAYS TO FIX IT

Three ways to bring AI into your business

01

Do it yourself with ChatGPT and free tools

Sign up to ChatGPT or a similar assistant, watch a few tutorials and try it on your own work. Honest verdict: the cheapest way to learn, and the right answer if what you need is faster emails, quotes or social posts. Where it falls down: a chat window doesn’t answer your phone, update your diary or chase a lead on its own. Connecting it to the rest of your business is a build, and the hours to do it and keep it working come out of your evenings.

02

A large consultancy or strategy firm

A consultancy runs workshops with your team and delivers an AI strategy: a report, a roadmap and a list of recommended tools. Honest verdict: the right choice for a large organisation that needs board sign-off, procurement and compliance work before anything moves. Where it falls down: for an owner-led business you pay for meetings and a slide deck, and the actual build is usually a separate project, often with a different supplier.

03

A hands-on AI consultant who builds

Starts with where your hours and enquiries go, names the two or three jobs worth automating with the payback in your numbers, then builds them inside the tools you use and stays on to run them. Says so when the honest answer is a tool you can buy, or nothing at all. This one is ours.

Our recommendation: If your problem is writing things faster, a paid ChatGPT plan and an afternoon learning it will do the job, so don’t hire anyone. If you’re a large organisation that needs governance and a board-level plan, a strategy firm is built for that. If you run an owner-led business and the cost is hours of admin, slow replies or enquiries going cold, a consultant who builds the fix and is judged on the hours it saves will pay back fastest.

HOW IT WORKS

We start with a short call and a look at your last few weeks: the calls you missed, the enquiries that went quiet, the jobs someone types out twice. We put an hours figure and a money figure on each, then show you which ones are worth fixing and which aren’t. If one is, we build it inside the tools you already use, test it on real work with you, and keep it running. Pricing follows your numbers, with a one-time setup fee plus a monthly fee, agreed before we start.

JC Electrical in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire needed local customers to get a response while the job was still on their mind, and that work had to fit around time on site. We built an enquiry form that texts the customer back and alerts the owner, an AI receptionist with a call-transfer route, and a content machine that publishes useful guides. Our own articles and social posts run on the same kind of system.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What does an AI consultant do for a small business?

What does an AI consultant do for a small business?

A good one finds the repeated work that costs you hours or loses you jobs, such as missed calls, slow replies to enquiries, quotes typed out by hand and reports pulled together on a Friday. Then they tell you which of those AI can take on, what it will save, and build it. If nothing is worth doing yet, they should say so.

How much does an AI consultant cost?

Fees vary widely, so judge any quote against what it saves. Count the hours a week a task takes, multiply by what an hour of that person’s time is worth to you, then by the working weeks in a year. That total is the number any fix has to beat, ours included. If it doesn’t beat it within a year, don’t buy it.

How do I tell a real AI consultant from someone selling a course?

Ask to see something they built that runs in a business today, and watch it work or ring it. Ask who owns it and what happens when they leave. Ask what they would tell you not to automate. Someone selling a course on becoming an AI consultant earns from the course, not from the hours they save you.

What should a small business automate first?

Start with the job that happens most often, follows clear rules and has money attached. For most service businesses that’s answering calls and replying to new enquiries, because a slow reply loses the job to the next name on Google. Re-keying details between tools usually comes next.

Is it safe to put customer data into AI tools?

It depends on the tool and the plan. Before anything is built, ask where the data is stored, which AI provider processes it, and whether that provider uses it for training. Keep customer details out of personal free accounts. A good consultant writes down where each piece of customer data goes before building anything, so you can check it and say no to any step.

THREE DOUBTS

Asked before booking. Answered straight.

I’m not technical. I won’t know if it’s working.

You don’t need to be. Everything we build tells you what it did in plain English, by text or email, and every call or message is kept so you can check it. If you can read a text, you can tell whether it’s working.

I tried ChatGPT and it made things up.

Chat tools guess when they don’t know. What we build only works from the information you give it, such as your prices, services and area, and it says when it isn’t sure instead of guessing. The receptionist, for example, hands the caller to you when it can’t answer.

AI feels like a fad. I’d rather wait.

Waiting is a fair choice, and it’s one of the options above. Count what last month’s missed calls and slow replies cost you first. If the number is small, wait. If it isn’t, that’s the cost of waiting.
